I'm back...

So, in all honesty, I miss blogging. I got all excited this morning when I noted that two people actually updated, isn't that sad? And, I'm far away from everyone, and I wish there was an easy way to keep people updated, so here it is!

I started work at Boston Scientific CRM (previously Guidant) on May 29. I was really excited because they make pacemakers and internal defibrillators, which is like an amazing combination of biomedical, electrical, and mechanical engineering (my 3 fav's). Also, the company had a really good feel to it during the info session, so I wanted to see what it was like.

I'm working in the Leads Requirements group of the company, which means they make requirements that the new designs must fulfill to be considered 'acceptable'. My project is to determine the bulk properties of the leads they already have so that they can use those properties in their computer model.

I already got in a car accident. I seem to do this every summer: go somewhere new, hurt my car. It's sadness. I was exiting the main road that everyone from BSC leaves at the end of the day to turn left on another road. There were like 20 cars in line so I waited quite a while. When I got to be the second car, the car in front of me went to pull forward, so I took my foot off the break and looked left to see if I'd be able to get through too. Before I knew it, I hit him. He hadn't actually gone - he kind of faked me out. He went ahead and crossed into the middle, and I had to wait a while until I could cross as well.

Figures, he was also a BSC employee, AND he was only going to be there for a few months as well. He might be an intern as well, but I didn't ask directly. He actually had a rental (I think it was a jeep), but it didn't show signs of damage. However, when I shifted my eyesight to my car, it was quite disturbing. The headlight was shifted way back and the turn signal light was cracked and broken. My hood was all bent up on that side as well. Preliminary guess: $1000 to fix it. Gah!

We exchanged information and he said that he wouldn't say anything unless the rental company noticed the small scratch in the spare tire cover. Woot for that and us not being hurt. Darn my little car. It gets great gas mileage, but it seems to bend with the touch of a finger.

I had to go on with my day, though; so I went to Target to get my groceries for the week. I then drove back. The car ran fine except when I turned the air conditioner on. That made a scary noise! I did a half-crap job of trying to parallel park my car, and ran up to take pictures of the denting. I finally managed to open the hood to check for damage there, and I think most of the engine is fine. Now that I look at it more, I think I bent the main frame, which will majorly blow. Of course, after that, I couldn't get the hood to go back down.

So, then I was stuck with a car, which I couldn't drive very fast because the hood was popped. Best of all, Minneapolis/St. Paul are cities of highways and you can't get anywhere without a highway!

Time for work...more to come later!
